Git-ing Software: Finding and Re-using Research Software on GitHub

October 24, 2025
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM
America/New_York
Butler Library, 535 W. 114 St., New York, NY 10027 208B

Open-source projects, coding libraries, and tutorials are changing how research is done. But how can you use them in your own work? Research software, after all, is rarely found in a library database. In this beginner-friendly workshop, we’ll explore the basics of version control, open-source licensing, and how to find and cite software for your projects. Whether you’re looking to adapt a library, use an existing tool, or simply understand how GitHub works, you’ll leave with resources and next steps to keep learning. Attendees from all academic and technical backgrounds are welcome.
